Jekka McVicar, crowned the ‘Queen of Herbs’ by Jamie Oliver, is to close her organic nursery at the end of the month to concentrate on teaching.
Plants from the nursery, which include more than 650 varieties of culinary, aromatic, decorative and medicinal herbs, will be sold off at three open days this week.
The farm is to be converted into a school where Jekka will run practical workshops in propagation, plant maintenance, plant identification, herb garden design and cooking with herbs and a ‘Herboretum’ will be opening in the autumn of 2013 to display the herb collection Jekka has built up over the last three decades.
The farm was founded 25 years ago and has won 62 RHS gold medals since 1993 including 14 from the Chelsea Flower Show. The online shop is not closing and will continue to sell seeds, teas and books.
